This intensive longitudinal pilot study will use ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to track proximal risk, maintenance, and protective factors for alcohol-related intimate partner violence experiences among women currently in abusive relationships. The intention is to determine which factors to target for a future just-in-time adaptive intervention (JITAI). A variety of self-report and physiological measurements will be administered with participants.

This pilot clinical trial aims to reduce alcohol misuse and associated consequences among trauma survivors using a 6-session, skills-based, and modular intervention. Participants will be recruited from UNM Hospital and the surrounding Albuquerque community. Beyond targeting alcohol-related outcomes, Peak Recovery will hopefully result in improvements with emotion regulation, coping self-efficacy, empowerment, and social support.

This qualitative study uses cognitive interviewing techniques to develop a self-report measure of shame among women with histories of interpersonal trauma and substance misuse. The intention is to understand women’s lived experience of this emotion and how it potentially impedes trauma and addiction recovery. This pilot data will also be used to inform the development of a shame-related psychological intervention.
